Recycled Knit Hoodie

A zip-through hoodie made in knitwear rather than sweatshirt fabric — closer to a fine-gauge jumper, so it's lighter in the hand and falls softly through the body instead of holding a boxy shape. That's what gives it its range: it reads as knitwear from across a room, so it sits as easily with tailored trousers or a slip dress as it does with jeans. It's made from a blend of 40% Better Cotton Initiative cotton and 60% recycled content — offcuts from weaving and knitting mills, post-consumer clothing and recycled plastic bottles, spun back into yarn rather than thrown out.

It's knitted in small batches in a family-owned factory in Tuscany. The zip runs the full length of the front, so it opens right down; the hood is generously cut and sits soft against the neck rather than standing up. Two pockets are set into the side seams at the hip, and ribbing at the cuffs and hem holds the shape where the knit would otherwise drop. The sleeve is set with a dropped shoulder, so the fit through the arm is relaxed.

Wear it open over a white tee with straight jeans and trainers, or zipped under a longer coat as a mid-layer through spring. Over a slip dress with ankle boots it does the same job a cardigan would, with the hood softening the line at the shoulder. It's a piece that sits in the gap between knitwear and sweatshirt, so it can go with either.
